Could I use Simplicity of Upload with php 5 to do this?
« on: April 23, 2005, 04:26:29 PM »

Could I use php5 and Simplicity of Upload 1.2 to read xml files from 6 different sources and do simple searches against those files?  The objective is only to read/search information in xml format and display using a browser...nothing else.

I've been posting the message below around the last day or so to see if what I'm trying to do is possible.  I saw this site and thought I would give it a try.  Input is appreciated.  Original message posted below:

I'll start by saying I'm not a programmer.  I'm looking for ideas/ways to best search a large file made up of several columns of data.  CiscoWorks can export all user tracking data directly to a file in CSV or XML format.  This file contains user tracking information made up of several columns showing information like Device Name, IP Address, MAC address, User Name, and a few more columns.  There are six CiscoWorks servers I need to get user tracking data from.  I can setup a cron job to run on each unix box on a scheduled basis that will create the files.  I can then ftp these files to a common location and cat them into one.  I'll then have this file about 50 MB in size that will need to have searches performed against it.  Sure, I could pull the CSV file up in Excel or something but I would think there's a better way.  I was thinking more along the lines of having a web browser front end and the ability to do searches from that browser.

Simplicity of Upload is a script for uploading files to a webspace regardless of their type/extension
so I guess you have misunderstood its job ;)
but a note tho, a 50MB flat file search will cause a heavy sever load.
